What Equipment Do You Use?
We don’t focus much on gear in our videos, that’s just not the heart of our channel! BritHikesOntario is all about the birds, the adventures, and connecting with fellow nature lovers. We’d be out there doing the same thing with whatever tools we had available!
That said, some people really want to know what camera I’m using! 😉
Cameras

360 Degree Camera: Insta360 X5
Buy on Amazon
Canada 🇨🇦 | USA 🇺🇸
We often use this for “ChaseCam” shots when we are driving, but it has a host of uses. Films in every direction, you can later edit the footage to point wherever you want.
We have the X4 model, but the X5 is updated with higher resolution and larger sensor.
Lenses

Supertelephoto: Nikon Z 180-600mm F5.6-6.3
Buy on Amazon

This is our go-to lens for shooting birds while we are on the move! You can get prime lenses that are faster and have more reach than this one, but they will be larger and/or more expensive.
For what we do – run around looking for birds in different places, this lens remains relatively light and quick to track moving birds.
I only buy Nikon/Nikkor lenses and avoid 3rd party lenses.
This page is a work in progress, but here is a quick list of other gear we use:
Shorter Lens
For occasional talking/scenery:
Nikon Z 24-70mm F4 🇨🇦 Canada | USA 🇺🇸
Teleconvertor:
For longer distance shots, I use:
Nikon Z TC-1.4X 🇨🇦 Canada | USA 🇺🇸
Camera Harness
I use a harness which the camera connects to, so that I can strap it to my front while I’m not using it. This harness is a GAME-CHANGER. I am not sponsored by the manufacturer. I just genuinely highly recommend it. I received it from my wife as a gift.
